Rajasthan International Centre (RIC), Jaipur
Block-C, Bhamashah State Data Centre, Jhalana Doongri, Jaipur, Rajasthan 302004
Aiming to establish a world-class Centre of Excellence for intellectual and cultural activities, the Rajasthan government decided to create a multicultural, international-level center in Jaipur, akin to the India International Centre in New Delhi. This task was entrusted to the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) in April 2011.
To select the best design for the Rajasthan International Centre (RIC), JDA conducted a nationwide design competition, inviting submissions from eminent architects across India. The design by M/s Pramod Jain and Associates emerged as the winner and was awarded the project.
The foundation stone of the RIC was laid on April 19, 2013, by Hon'ble Shri Ashok Gehlot, the Chief Minister of Rajasthan, and Hon'ble Shri Shanti Dhariwal, the Minister for Urban Development & Housing, Rajasthan.
The building's design features a series of square modules inspired by the Navgrah (the nine planets in Hindu mythology). The central nine squares have a cut-out on each floor, topped with a skylight called Brahma, which is meant to energize the entire building. This central square extends in a staggered manner to the north and south, hosting the Convention Hall and Auditorium at its ends. The square modules are positioned at a 45-degree angle on the north-south axis to avoid direct sunlight. The site's natural topography facilitated the placement of the main entrances at two opposite ends of the building.
